CMS IT Workshop 2020 - Review and outlook on the digital HU

On 28 July 2020, CMS invited IT officers to its annual IT Workshop.

Due to the corona situation, the annual workshop was held via video conference. More than 40 participants took part. The content of this year's event was also influenced by Corona and its effects on the HU.

Explicitly, the event did not only want to give a review of the particular challenges of the "digital summer semester", but also be an outlook and a discussion about future solutions for the upcoming winter semester and beyond.

CMS employees presented new services such as lecture-recording in an empty lecture hall and gave an insight into the status of the evaluation of new services such as Bigbluebutton or Opencast. Wolfgang Deicke reported on the work of the Task Force Digital Lehre and Timo Schmidt, IT officer at the Institute for European Ethnology, presented an example of the creative approaches of HU's decentralized IT: His institute mapped the virtual operation with the VOIP solution Mumble, which has its origins in the gaming sector.

The concluding discussion was held under the heading "Winter is coming". IT representatives and CMS discussed solutions for practical challenges posed by digital teaching.

The full report including lecture presentations can be found on the CMS' website.
