Job description
This position is part of the projects "Digital Filtering" and "Adaptive Digital Twin" of the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity". The research work focuses on Interactive Intelligent Data Visualization with a focus on Uncertainty Visualization. The challenge is to make the uncertainty that exists in the visualization of data and its algorithmic processing visible and questionable for humans. Therefore, topics of analysis, evaluation and decision making under uncertainty, the question of the representations of uncertainty, the interaction with corresponding visualizations as well as the generation of trust in the "active image" are of central importance.

Area of responsibility

Research in the field of Interactive Intelligent Data Visualization with the following areas:

  • Design of new concepts in the field of Uncertainty Visualization with an emphasis on interpretability and trust and their implementation in the form of interactive prototypes
  • Development of independent research projects in coordination with the participating disciplines
  • Preparation of scientific publications for the dissemination of research results

Hiring requirements

  • Completed scientific University degree and doctorate in computer science or related subject area

Preferred Requirements

  • Above-average willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation;
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Further qualification in all disciplines relevant to the research project should be described in a letter of motivation
  • An additional exposé should concentrate on possible research work to be carried out in the context of the job description

An additional exposé should concentrate on possible research work to be carried out in the context of the job description.

The exposé should describe a research project oriented towards the Cluster's research programme and the »Filtering« and »Cutting« project, in which it becomes plausible which other disciplines should be involved in working on the project.

Further information

The exposé should present a research project oriented towards the cluster's research program and the "Filtering" and "Cutting" projects. It should become plausible which other disciplines should be involved in working on the project. The research program of the Cluster of Excellence can be found here.

The Applications (letter of motivation, CV, exposé, recommendations) should be adressed to Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller-Birn and sent in PDF format (preferably as one document) stating the identifier (MoA-FU-WM-PostDoc) electronically by e-mail to melanie.siering@fu-berlin.de or by post to the following address:
